Abstract painting reveals a dimension that cannot be captured in representational forms. The method of applying paint with colour and gesture provides an opportunity to generate a record of how we perceive our inner lives to be manifested. All of the works in this exhibition were conceived with the intention to document those fleeting moments that exist between thought and instinct. Rather than intentional vision, these works reflect a connection to feeling through paint.

Zihnin görünmeyen iklimi üzerine notlar.

İç Hava Durumu, Şebnem Ceylan’ın çağdaş sanat pratiği içinde geliştirdiği yeni bir soyut resim serisidir. Büyük boyutlu akrilik ve karışık teknik eserlerden oluşan bu seri, çağdaş sanat ile modern sanat arasında yer alan psikolojik ve şiirsel bir görsel alan açıyor.

Freud’un “bastırılanın dönüşü” kavramından ilham alan soyut tablolar; hafıza, bilinç ve bastırılmış duygular arasındaki görünmeyen ilişkiyi araştırıyor. İnsan yaşadığı anları unutsa bile, o anların bıraktığı izlerin farklı biçimlerde yaşamaya devam ettiği fikri, serinin çıkış noktasını oluşturuyor.

Katmanlı fırça darbeleri, bulut benzeri formlar ve renk geçişleri; bazen açıklayamadığımız bir huzursuzluğu, bazen tanıdık gelen ama kaynağını bilmediğimiz hisleri görünür kılıyor. The Weather Within

Notes on the invisible climate of the mind.

The Weather Within is a new series of contemporary abstract paintings by Şebnem Ceylan. Created with acrylic and mixed media techniques, these large-scale original artworks exist at the intersection of contemporary art, modern art, and abstract painting.

Inspired by Sigmund Freud’s concept of “the return of the repressed,” the series explores the invisible relationship between memory, consciousness, and emotional traces that continue to shape us long after specific experiences have faded.

Through layered brushstrokes, cloud-like forms, and subtle color transitions, these contemporary paintings evoke familiar feelings, unexplained tensions, and emotions whose origins often remain hidden. More than decorative wall art, the series offers a visual and psychological experience, inviting viewers to reconnect with their own inner landscape.

Blending fine art with contemporary abstract art, Şebnem Ceylan’s original paintings are an exploration of memory, perception, and the invisible climate that exists beneath the surface of everyday life.
